Il nido degli uccelli (The Bird’s Nest)

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the 1968 Student Movement. A time when student protests and unrest became the norm in Europe and the rest of the world. The IIC Melbourne presents “The Bird’s Nest”/’68. Scenic Devices in Motion (1963-1968), a photographic exhibition curated by Italian activist and art director Fabrizio Urettini. Unpublished photos taken at Sant’Ivo alla Sapienza (University of Rome) by Gabriele Milelli, at the time a young student of Architecture. Now showing for the first time in this exclusive exhibition.

Gabriele Milelli graduated in Architecture in 1968 at the Faculty of Architecture of “La Sapienza” University of Rome. Apart from a short period as a professional, he mainly worked as a researcher and teacher in the field of history of modern and contemporary architecture. He has taught at the Faculty of Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Le Marche, at La Sapienza University of Rome, University of Perugia, and at the Faculty of Architecture of Roma-Tre. His passion for photography and travelling has often provided him with an effective way to document and communicate his studies on contemporary architecture, and in particular, that of the Northern European countries.

 

Fabrizio Urettini activist and art director born in Treviso. His field of research goes from the ideation of corporate identity for public and private firms to the curatorship and communication for cultural events and expos.

Founder of “Spazio XYZ” (2008-2012), a plural exhibition space devoted to the different expressive forms of applied arts, has over 40 expo projects developed through collaborations with important international designers, illustrators and photographers.

The only Italian space covered by Art Spaces (New Museum – New York).

He has collaborated with several important institutions such as the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, IUAV University, Fondazione Benetton, Werkbund Archive, Fondazione Corrente and the Milano City Council.

Since 2008 he has been collaborating with Fototeca Gilardi for the realization of the first anthology of Ando Gilardi. Since 2016 he is founder of Talking Hands. Con le mani mi racconto a self-managed workshop, where a group of asylum seekers and refugees express themself with handwork descovering design as a narrative form.
