“Ars Gratia Artis” – Solo exhibition of Mario Sordini’s latest works.
Official Opening on Tuesday 21st March. By invitation only – IIC Members only event.
Mario Sordini was born in Rome in 1952. To be raised in the eternal city and be surrounded by some of the greatest works of art in the world at your doorstep means that you cannot remain indifferent to their beauty and magnificence and such experiences left their mark on Sordini, who developed a great passion for art, particularly in the field of painting.
As a young man Sordini began to paint without any formal artistic training, armed only with the enthusiasm to create something with colour that would excite him. With time he realised that his forte was abstract painting. The contrast of cool, bright and vivid colours that are used in his works are a vehicle to express feelings and emotions, and convey his deep-seeded sense of spirituality.
Each piece of Sordini’s is unique and he draws inspiration from the sacred with iconographic images that are a patchwork of materials which are similar to the ones used in actual worship places. He sources inspiration also from every-day situations.
Sordini is a Consular Employee by day and pursues his passion in his spare time. He is self-taught yet, whilst residing in Canberra, felt the need to expand on some basic skills and techniques that he did not possess. In order to complete his artistic training he enrolled in a visual arts course at the School of Art at the Australian National University in Canberra.
Till this day he continues to paint with that same initial passion he displayed in his youth. He derives pleasure from participating in group art exhibitions, the perfect setting that stimulates in him much growth. Sordini has received recognition for his work, and some of his pieces currently adorn the walls of the Consulate General of Italy in Melbourne, the Embassy of Italy in Canberra, the Italian Cultural Institute in Canberra and are found in private collections and public institutions both in Australia and in Italy.
