National Day of Italy 2024: Di Sabatino Trio’s First Australian Performance – Hobart (Tasmania)

Picture8

The Italian Cultural Institute of Melbourne and the Consulate General of Italy in Melbourne hosted a spectacular event at the Royal Theatre in Hobart, featuring the Australian debut performance of the Di Sabatino Trio in celebration of the Italian Republic Day.

The Di Sabatino Trio (Paolo Di Sabatino on piano, Simone Sulpizio on double bass, Glauco Di Sabatino on drums), with their impressive musical background and prominent role in the jazz world, delivered a unique performance, presenting original compositions alongside reinterpretations of famous pieces.

The presence of the Di Sabatino Trio was also significant for the revitalization of the sister-city relationship between L’Aquila and Hobart, in the broader context of strengthening ties between the Abruzzo region and the state of Tasmania. Paolo Di Sabatino, originally from Teramo, is a professor and coordinator of the jazz department at the “A. Casella” Conservatory of Music in L’Aquila.

The collaboration between Melbourne and Hobart for cultural events like this highlights the commitment to promoting Italian arts and culture across Australia.

A big thank you to all the partners who made the evening possible and to all the guests who participated in this incredible celebration of Italian culture and music.

A special thanks to the Hon. Madeleine Ruth Ogilvie, Minister for the Arts, Josh Willie, opposition representative, and the Lord Mayor of Hobart, the Hon. Anna Reynolds.
