La Casa del pane, symbolizes the idea of a house as nourishment and shelter, a place of
hospitality and dialogue between people.
It is an ongoing project ideated by the artist Gandolfo David. Starting from the archetype
of the house, that is, a common house without walls but symbolically able to offer a warm
refuge and refreshment, the artist initiates a participatory art journey that makes the act of
baking an opportunity for meeting people, places and cultures.

La casa del pane is a multimedia project composed by an installation characterised by a
metallic structure that refers to the archetype of the house that is designed to
accommodate processes and formalizations activated through bread workshops. Gandolfo
David, starting from the bread-making traditions widespread in Sicily and still alive in many
Sicilian cities, develops laboratory and performative moments as an opportunity to
formalise contemporary rituals of sharing, intercultural dialogue and raising awareness on
ecological issues.

The flour used by the artist in his workshops comes from Sicilian Heritage grains, that are
the custodians of a precious patrimony both for their organoleptic properties and for their
value in terms of ecological conversion with a view to environmental protection, and reflect
one of the main themes of “Sicily, Mediterranean Garden” presented by the Italian Culture
Institute, Melbourne.

The show, after stopping in several cities around the world, reflects a decade-long
research made up of anthropological suggestions and collective instances.
It will be presented a multimedia installation composed by 3 different videos and texts and
images selected from La Casa del Pane ‘s book. All the pictures collect the previous
stages of the project around several cities in Europe, example of various cultures and
religions in a syncretic dimension capable of restoring moments for meeting people and
sharing experiences.
