LIBRIAMOCI returns again this year, the national campaign dedicated to promoting reading aloud, now in its twelfth edition. The initiative, supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture in agreement with the Ministry of Education and Merit and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, is addressed to Italian schools of all levels, including those operating abroad and Italian sections within foreign, international and European institutions.

From 16 to 21 February 2026, during school hours, schools are invited to design and deliver reading-aloud activities aimed at strengthening students’ enjoyment of reading and shared listening.

The theme of the 2026 edition, “Every book is a living creature,” places reading at the centre as an experience of connection and harmony. The book is presented as a travelling companion capable of fostering respect for nature, understanding of others and the building of a more just and inclusive future.

The programme is structured around three thematic strands:

Singing Beauty, dedicated to the beauty of the natural world and that found within each of us, as well as to the imaginative power of language
Creatures on the Move, which through stories and novels explores emotions, relationships and inner landscapes
Creatures in Our Time, focused on contemporary challenges with a responsible and constructive outlook towards society and the environment

For this edition, the Italian Cultural Institute of Melbourne once again joins LIBRIAMOCI, offering schools in the Melbourne area the opportunity to host an expert Italian reader. The selected reading for students is Matilda by Roald Dahl, accompanied by interactive moments and follow-up activities related to the themes explored.

The Institute thanks Footscray Primary School and Brunswick South Primary School for their collaboration and hospitality.
