The old Giacinto Mazzatella lives in a miserable shack with his very numerous family, a blind and drunkard from Puglia whose main concern is to defend the million that was given to him for the loss of an eye from the greed of his family.
The underclassmen of Scola boast a direct link with the children of Pasolini’s life: ” ‘Accattone’ was a beautiful and enlightening film. And ten years later I thought about shooting it and continuing it”. Before the untimely death of the poet-filmmaker, Scola had submitted the script to him, thinking of a prologue to the film in which “Pasolini appeared and explained what had changed in ten years”.
