NewMuseum(s) – Milan Design Film Festival at ACMI

ACMI and the IIC Melbourne present NewMuseum(s), (2018, 45′) by Francesca Molteni.
Francesca Molteni’s film explores the aesthetic, social and cultural value of corporate archives and, beyond private institutions, also public museums, which were developed, as London-based architect and exhibition designer Mirko Cerami explains, alongside the development of public parks; both conceived as adding intrinsic value to the lives of a city’s citizens. Molteni assembles a range of voices to explore these ideas, from museum directors and curators to architects, designers, artists, musicians and cultural commentators such as erudite Paolo Sorrentino regular, actor Toni Servillo (The Great Beauty, Il divo).

It screens with short film Pianeta Rota (2021, 19′) by Eleonora Mastripietro.
Renowned Italian architect – and self-confessed hoarder – Italo Rota has been collecting objects, “expressions of the city and urban development”, all his life. Eleonora Mastropietro visits Rota at home in Milan where Rota acts as our guide ahead of a selection of objects from Rota’s collection being exhibited in Lucca as part of the ‘Pianeta città’ exhibition organised by the Ragghianti Foundation.
