For the third year running, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura Melbourne is part of the jury which decides who will win the Premio Strega.
The Strega Prize is the most prestigious Italian literary award. It has been awarded annually since 1947 for the best work of prose fiction written in the Italian language by an author of any nationality and first published between 1 May of the previous year and 30 April.
The “dozen” novels which make up the long list are currently being read by the eight members of the Melbourne IIC jury and the “cinquina” (the five novels comprising the short list) will be announced on June 10th 2021. Over 500 jury members from the world of Italian culture, including juries from 20 Institutes of Culture around the globe, will vote electronically for the 5 finalists.
In the meantime, if you would like to learn more about these authors, you can pop by the library of the IIC and borrow them in Italian. Or you can watch the authors introduce their works in Italian and online thanks to this event organised by the Premio Strega in Rome, with Stefano Petrocchi, the President of the Premio Strega.
