Melbourne Taranta Festival 2019

The 2019 Melbourne Taranta Festival aims at celebrating Italian music and dance with a particular focus on contemporary folk music.

The festival’s objective is to diffuse Italian and Mediterranean culture and to create a platform for Italian artists in Australia to collaborate with other artists from diverse communities, nationally and internationally.

Conferences, workshops and artistic collaborations will stimulate a trans-cultural dialogue, create a better understanding of Italian contemporary culture and establish new connections with other local migrant communities.

Special guests that will be performing is the pugliese folk music group “Canzonierie Grecanico Salentino” from Puglia (Italy) who are winners of best group of songlines music award.  There will be workshops on the tarantella dance and local musician/artists will perform with their bands: Santa Taranta and Rustica Project just to name a few popular ones.

With the support of IIC Melbourne.
