On 2 June, the Italian Cultural Institute and the Consulate of Italy in Melbourne celebrated the 79th Anniversary of the Italian Republic with an event held the LUME Melbourne, immersing guests in some of Italy’s most iconic cities. The evening honoured Italy’s rich heritage and its enduring bonds with Australia.

A sincere thank you to the Consul General of Italy, Chiara Mauri, for her inspiring words, and to all the distinguished guests in attendance.

Special acknowledgement to the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Steve Dimopoulos, and the Leader of the Opposition, Brad Battin, for their presence and remarks, as well as to all institutional representatives and our generous sponsors for their ongoing support.

A particularly meaningful moment was the conferral of the Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana to the former Governor of Victoria, the Honourable Linda Dessau, in recognition of her significant contribution to strengthening ties between Italy and Australia.

The evening was one of pride, connection, and a heartfelt celebration of Italy’s cultural legacy in the heart of Melbourne.
