The short film on the opera comes out exclusively to celebrate World Theatre Day – World Theatre Day was initiated in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute ITI. It is celebrated annually on the 27th March by ITI Centres and the international theatre community.
Rome, summer 2020. At the end of the lockdown, the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma decides to give a clear sign of revival. It is therefore producing the first and only new opera scheduled in Europe for the summer. The choice falls on the opera that most represents Italy around the world: ‘Rigoletto’ by Giuseppe Verdi. The direction is entrusted to Damiano Michieletto, a young artist ahead of his time. The challenge is great: there is only one month available to set up direction there are many limits imposed by anti-Covid protocols. First of all, social distancing between singers and dancers on stage.
The short movie ‘Rigoletto al Circo Massimo’ tells of this adventure.
Directed by the Italian-American Enrico Parenti, with the editing by Andrea Campajola, and produced by Indigo Film, the project was selected as part of Corti d’Autore (Auteur shorts), an initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration with the National Association of Multimedia Audiovisual Film Industries (ANICA).
