Fellini Retrospective: Amarcord (1973)

POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE! in compliance with the Victorian state government’s lockdown of the Melbourne metropolitan area from 8th July to curtail the spread of Covid-19, the Fellini Retrospective will be rescheduled to later in the year.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great master of Italian cinema.

“Amarcord” is the seventh film presented within the Fellini retrospective organized by Classic Cinemas and promoted by the IIC Melbourne in collaboraton with the IIC Sydney. The film will be screening at the Classic Cinemas Elsternwick to an audience.

The IIC Melbourne has invited Elisabetta Ferrari (Lecturer in Italian Studies, University of Melbourne) to introduce every film in the program.

AMARCORD (1973)

Cast: Bruno Zanin, Armando Brancia Pupella Maggio, Giuseppe Ianigro

Plot: The movie is set in Fellini’s native town, Rimini. Its protagonist, young Titta (Bruno Zanin), gets into trouble with his friends and watches various local eccentrics as they engage in often absurd behaviour. Frequently clashing with his stern father (Armando Brancia) and defended by his doting mother (Pupella Maggio), Titta witnesses the actions of a wide range of characters, from his extended family to Fascist loyalists to sensual women, with certain moments shifting into fantastical scenarios.

The movie won an Oscar in 1975 as Best Foreign Language Film.
