Fellini Retrospective: Satyricon (1969)

POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE! in compliance with the Victorian state government’s lockdown of the Melbourne metropolitan area from 8th July to curtail the spread of Covid-19, the Fellini Retrospective will be rescheduled to later in the year.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great master of Italian cinema.

“Satyricon” is the fifth film presented within the Fellini retrospective organized by Classic Cinemas and promoted by the IIC Melbourne in collaboraton with the IIC Sydney. The film will be screening at the Classic Cinemas Elsternwick to an audience.

The IIC Melbourne has invited Elisabetta Ferrari (Lecturer in Italian Studies, University of Melbourne) to introduce every film in the program.

SATYRICON (1969)

Cast: Martin Potter, Hiram Keller, Max Born, Salvo Randone

Plot: The movie is loosely based on Petronius’s work Satyricon, written during the reign of Emperor Nero and set in imperial Rome. The film is divided into nine episodes, following Encolpius and his friend Ascyltus as they try to win the heart of a young boy named Gitón within a surreal and dream-like Roman landscape.
