NOTICE – EVENT CANCELLED: Due to the lockdown decree approved by the Italian Government over the weekend, Prof Riccardo Balbo is unable to travel to Australia and this conference has been cancelled. We look forward to seeing him in Australia in the future.
The IIC Melbourne presents a talk in English by Prof. Riccardo Balbo, for the Italian Design Day (25th March 2020), whose theme this year is “Drawing the future. Development, Innovation, Sustainability, Beauty”.
The long lasting dispute between beauty and functionality, has been rerouted in new paths: environment and sustainability are the new playground where aesthetic and efficiency play the value match. Sustainability, beyond is basic and relatively recent interpretation of “human responsible environmental response” is a complex framework: innovation, community’s needs, time, cultural paradigms are the ingredient that we need to handle to improve the quality of our life. What is design? Is it a possible way for a social attitude shift to face and address the global challenges? Design can provide an interpretation to sustainability, that is wider and inclusive.
Prof. Balbo will be also one of the speakers of an international symposium presented during the Melbourne Design Week: Design City | Building An Innovation Ecosystem, a two-day symposium, hosted by Deakin University and the City of Greater Geelong.
