The story starts in 1963. Pasolini begins working on a film commissioned by producer Gastone Ferranti and its title will be ‘La Rabbia’ (The Anger). It will be a film-laboratory, a film-essay, the editing of the newsreel footage that will give a poetic and political portrait of the contemporary world. It is a formidable intellectual experiment that is interrupted abruptly: the producer decides to transform the film into a four-handed work and assigns a segment to Giovannino Guareschi. At first Paolini is really annoyed by that then he accepts and renounces to the first part segment of his film to make room to the episode by Guareschi. The results is a misrepresented film that today re-emerges thanks to the reconstruction proposed by Giuseppe Bertolucci. ‘La Rabbia’ di Pasolini is “an attempt to reconstruct” and at the same time an unexpected finding, an unprecedented return of a poetic voice and a visionary force that spreads vertigo wide on our present, and a true cultural compensation as well. The attempt to reconstruct “gives back” to Pasolini the entirety of his work with an extra 16 minutes never seen before with an additional in-depth appendix about the international political framework of the time: footage of the funeral of De Gasperi, of the atomic cannons, of the rising of Europe, of the war in Korea, of the Italian landscape, of the Italian television,of a violent, irreversible social and cultural transformation of which Pasolini will be the most acute and tormented witness”.
