Lightcatcher: Map Studio in Melbourne

Please join us as we host a lecture with architects Francesco Magnani and Traudy Pelzel, MAP Studio, presented in partnership with MPavilion.

MAP Studio are the designers of the 2020 MPavilion. A work more than two years in the making, MAP studio’s MPavilion was originally slated for construction in 2020, with progress being postponed as the world responded to the COVID-19 crisis. MAP Studio has reignited the flame of global partnership at MPavilion with its joyful iteration of Melbourne’s favourite cultural laboratory.

MAP studio is an international office for architecture, urbanism and design, which began in2004 with the union of architects Francesco Magnani and Traudy Pelzel, who then founded their joint architectural firm in2010, located now in the historic center of Venice in a beautiful workspace at the second main floor of palazzo Foscarini in front of Carmini church. MAP studio carries out assignments and combines public and private professional activities with research, focusing on architectural design and urban renewal as well as the transformation of existing buildings, interior design and exhibition design.

MAP studio projects are always tailored to the specifics of the site, the program, and the client. We consider architecture to be a process of constant dialogue; thus, we involve experts and consultants in every stage of the design process. Completed works range from the noted renovation of the Porta Nuova Tower in the Venice Arsenale, which presents a benchmark building for the renovation design of historic buildings, to a custom set of exhibition designs and new buildings and several restorations.

Recently MAP studio completed the restoration of Carlo Scarpa’s house in Venice. The story of this exceptional building site is published in the book titled ‘The House on Grand Canal’ edited by Electa. A whole series of projects for private and public clients is currently underway.

MAP studio ́s works have been published in several international architectural publications.
