THE PAST IS ALWAYS PRESENT: THE EVOLUTIONARY CAREER OF ROBERTO ROSSELLINI
The Italian Cultural Institute, in collaboration with Melbourne Cinémathèque and ACMI, presents a retrospective dedicated to the work of Roberto Rossellini, one of the most influential filmmakers in the history of cinema.
Recognized as the “father” of Italian neorealism, Rossellini (1906–1977) was a key figure in modern cinema. This retrospective presents films from different stages of his career, highlighting his creativity, versatility, and innovative approach to filmmaking.
The program opens on Wednesday, 5 March, with a special screening of Rome, Open City (Roma città aperta, 1945).
