The IIC Melbourne is pleased to introduce this exclusive concert with soprano Alessandra Cantin and guitarist Massimo Scattolin, who will present songs from the CD “On Wings of Song”, which, amongst others, includes music by Puccini, Giordani, Händel, Vivaldi, Giacosa, Illica, Schubert, Lehar, Piazzolla and Scattolin himself.
Massimo Scattolin was born in Treviso and started his guitar studies with Giorgio Baragella. After a few meetings with Andres Segovia he attended a specialization course with Alirio Diaz, who described Massimo Scattolin’s performance skills as “… exquisite instrumental and musical art…“. After having started his performance career as a soloist very early in life, Massimo devoted himself to chamber music. Subsequently he specialized in the performance of the most important concerts for guitar and orchestra and great composers such as Violet Archer and Astor Piazzolla have dedicated works to him. He is jury member of prestigious national and international competitions, teaches specialization courses both in Italy and abroad, and is the first Italian guitarist appointed principal guitar teacher in the Master course offered at the Salzburg “Mozarteum”. He has recorded CDs as soloist, with orchestras and chamber orchestras, with violinists Giuliano Carmignola and Franco Mezzena, flute player Roberto Fabbriciani, the Quartetto Amati, pianist Massimiliano Damerini, percussionist Tullio De Piscopo, cello players Julius Berger and Arturo Bonucci, guitarist Tolo Marton and celebrated Cuban ensemble Grupo Compay Segundo-Buena Vista Social Club. He has established the Paganini Consort and Guitarland ensembles.
Alessandra Cantin graduated in singing at the Conservatory of Music “Cesare Pollini” in Padua with Adriana Castellan. She then continued her studies with Rita Lantieri, Elisabetta Tandura, Alida Ferrarini, Fiorenza Marchiori and now with Serena Lazzarini. She attended a Contemporary Music course at the Civic Music School of Milan, with Maestro Renato Rivolta, and obtained a degree with high distinction in Vocal Chamber Music under the guidance of Elisabetta Andreani at the Conservatory “Francesco Venezze” in Rovigo. Winner of the National Competition “Dino Caravita” in Fusignano (Ravenna), she has always achieved excellent results in several national and international singing competitions, such as the “Riviera della Versilia” in Camaiore, “Opera reborn” in Biella, “Canta Junior” at Lignano Sabbiadoro. She made her debut in Padua as Lisetta in B. Galuppi’s opera Il mondo della luna, then in G. Puccini’s Tosca at the Arena in Verona and at the Teatro Sociale in Rovigo; Elisir d’amore by G. Donizetti, Carmen by Bizet and Nabucco by Verdi in Padua; Tabarro and Suor Angelica by G. Puccini in Modena, Lucca, Pisa, Livorno, Bolzano, Ravenna; Rigoletto by G. Verdi in Modena and Trento. Thanks to her versatile voice quality, Alessandra Cantin has been singing not only opera roles, but also contemporary and sacred music works.
