Original version. Subtitles: English

Set at the end of the 60s in a Ostia which has now disappeared, two brothers, Bandiera and Rabbino, anarchists and anticlericals, live on thefts and petty tricks. When they save a young girl from her abusive father, they both remember a tragic and devastating episode from their childhood: their ambiguous and troubled relationship is turned upside down.

“The best critics […] found Sergio Citti’s first film, ‘Ostia’, beautiful. It was indeed a beautiful film: only Rossellini had managed to make such beautiful films with such simplicity and naturalness. The diabolical was in the film, not in its form. A success like that of ‘Ostia’ is explained through the authenticity of the personal experience relived in the work: the love between two brothers, the woman who becomes part of it as an element of Evil, the world around naked, devoid of any ornament. ” (Pier Paolo Pasolini)
