Remains of the Day

REMAINS OF THE DAY

Photographs by Emilio Cresciani

Co.As.It. Museo Italiano, 199 Faraday St, Carlton: from 17th June until 18th August 2017

The exhibition features large-scale photographs of different types of rubbish found in waste centres – the remains of our modern consumer lifestyle.

These places are removed from our daily experience, but are the consequences of the products we buy and throw away.

Emerging artist Cresciani discovered that the shredded, squashed, cubed, jumbled and melted waste created fascinating patterns and colour. He filled the frame with rubbish to engulf the viewer, and then inverted them as negatives, a bit like an x-ray, which reveals the weakness or disease in our body. The negative side, or effects, of our consumerism.

He sees beauty in the everyday – the overlooked, the unseen, and the unsightly.

Opening evening: Friday 16th June, 6.30pm. Free event. Light refreshments served. RSVP: Eventbrite or paolob@coasit.com.au
