A talk in English, with Professor Cecilia Robustelli.

If you love Italian Cooking then the odds are that you've heard of "La Scienza in Cucina e L'Arte di mangiare bene" (Science in the Kitchen and the Art of Eating Well) by Pellegrino Artusi; this amazing volume was first published in 1891 and was reprinted in 15 editions in Artusi's lifetime. It is still considered, today, to be one of the world's most reputable cook books.

Cecilia Robustelli, as a linguist, writer and academic, has studied Artusi's book beyond its impact on the dishes we eat and love today and analysed the impact it has had on the Italian language.

They say that food can bring people together and Academic Cecilia Robustelli will share her findings with us to show how Artusi's book contributed to the gastronomic and linguistic unity of Italy. Perhaps, even more importantly, the role of this cookbook in empowering women to learn to read in an epoque where women were mostly excluded from education.
