2. THE WORLD’S FRINGE

Pier Paolo Pasolini: when Cinema meets Poetry - Full retrospective on the centenary of his birth
2. The World's Fringe (9-30 April, 2022)

The World's Fringe are the films that show the life, often violent, of the slums on the edge of the metropolis. "In 'Accattone' I wanted to represent the degradation and humble human condition of a character who lives in the mud and dust of the towns of Rome".

The second part of the retrospective dedicated to Pasolini on the fortieth anniversary of his death delves into the mud and dust of the suburbs around the world, on the margins of industrialized societies, following a path, traced by the poet-director, from the Roman underclass province to the Third World. And so the suburbs of Italy (of Pasolini, Bertolucci, Citti, Mangini, Scola, Ciprì and Maresco) are not far from those of Manila (Brocka), Taipei (Hou Hsiao-hsien), Calcutta (Satyajit Ray), Dakar ( Sembène and Mambéty), from the American ghettos (Rogosin). Poetry of the humble, the dispossessed, the oppressed.
