CAFFÈ LETTERARIO*

This course is designed for those who have a specific interest for Italian literature and would like to know more about it, through the reading of some of its masterpieces. The teacher, an expert, will present some texts of both classic and contemporary literature and will analyse them in class, along with the students.

Target audience: This course is suitable for those who have a C1 level or equivalent.

Material required: The teacher will supply the course material, both tailor-made and taken from other sources (textbooks, newspapers and new media).

Duration: 10 weeks, 2 hours and a half weekly - The course is activated with a minimum of 6 students.

The course will resume when it will again be possible to resume courses in person, probably in Term 2

ITALIAN TO TASTE

The course is designed for those who love Italian cuisine and language. Students will be able to deepen their knowledge of the Italian language and culture by learning how to prepare typical Italian recipes. During the course you will be taught how to cook characteristic dishes of the Bel Paese, together with linguistic insights and analysis of the culinary vocabulary, also thanks to the help of videos. A journey into the kitchen, from North to South, to discover Italian recipes, ingredients, products, and traditions. The recipes will be analysed under the linguistic and cultural aspects and in the following lesson the students, with the help of the teacher, will be able to prepare the recipes by interacting with the teacher about the technical terms learned and carrying out the actions that the verbs indicate. Simple recipes will be chosen, the preparation of which will not exceed 60 minutes.

Target audience: Suitable for someone that has completed level A2 or equivalent.

Material required: The course material would be provided by the teacher.

The teacher will supply additional material, both tailor-made and taken from other sources (textbooks, newspapers and new media).

Duration: 10 weeks, 1 hour and a half weekly- 15 hours in total - The course is activated with a minimum of 6 students.

ITALIAN THROUGH CINEMA

This course is specific for those interested in improving their knowledge of Italian language and culture through Italian movies, while improving speaking, reading and listening skills.

By watching movies, extracts and by participating in discussions based on selected scenes, the students will also develop a critical outlook and understanding of modern Italian society.

Target audience: Suitable for someone that has completed level B2 or equivalent.

ITALIAN WITH MUSIC

The course is ideal for those wishing to improve their knowledge of the Italian language and culture through music and the analysis of specific pieces. Listening to songs written in different historical periods and analysing the texts, allows the student to improve their pronunciation, their understanding of a written and oral text, as well as to deepen their knowledge of Italian society in different moments of its history. In addition, during the lesson, students will be invited by the teacher to participate in discussions and will therefore improve their ability to converse on different topics. Passages from the end of the 1950s to the present will be taken into consideration

Target audience: Suitable for someone that has completed level B2 or equivalent.

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ARIAS OF DONIZETTI

Find out who Donizetti is through his most beautiful arias. The course intends to propose, through listening and analysis of the most beautiful arias of the Italian composer, a historical excursus on the life and work of Donizetti and on his influence in the evolution of Italian opera.

Duration: 10 weeks, 1 hour and a half weekly - The course is activated with a minimum of 6 students. AUD 600

ITALIAN AND POETRY 

This  course is dedicated to lovers of Italian poetry. The focus is on the analysis of 10 Italian poems, one per lesson, taking students on a journey through time accompanied by Italian poetry, from 1200 to the present day.

The texts will be provided and, following the reading of the poem, the teacher will provide an explanation of the elements of the context, the historical poetic framework and some key words will be explored, familiarizing with the poetic lexicon.

The course will be held in English.

ITALIAN OF ART

This course is dedicated to those who wish to improve their knowledge of the Italian language and culture through the study of Italian artistic masterpieces. During the course, the student will be able to learn Italian syntax and grammar through artistic texts, analysing some words from the world of art and deepening their knowledge of Italian art. The student will discover the characteristics of paintings, sculptures, or works of architecture, of different styles and in different historical contexts

Target audience: Suitable for someone that has completed level A2

HISTORY OF GREEK ART

arte greca1 696x492The History of Greek Art course, through the presentation of the architecture of sculpture and painting, intends to give a vision of art at the basis of Western culture, through an excursus of an artistic, philosophical, aesthetic, and social history. During the course, temples, sculptures, and vases will be analysed to give an image as complete as possible of the evolution of this art from the Archaic to the Hellenistic period, with a short excursion also into Minoan and Mycenaean art. Immerse yourself in the beauty of ancient knowledge also through the exploration of myths and find out why this art was later considered classic and therefore a model to strive for.

This course is also very useful for understanding Italian art.

HISTORY OF ROMAN ART

It will begin with Etruscan art and will reach the end of the empire through the most spectacular examples of art as an instrument of power. The main masterpieces of architecture, sculpture and painting will be analysed through specific examples.
