The Melbourne International Film Festival and the Italian Cultural Institute are pleased to present an introduction to the retrospective Italo-Crime, in Italian known as poliziottesco.
Italo-Crime surveys the lurid and acclaimed landscape of crime, action and police procedurals of 60s/70s Italy: the soundtracks, the car chases, the political upheaval – all is up for grabs in these hardboiled Urban Westerns!
INTRODUCTION
A brief introduction will be given in English by Al Cossar, new MIFF artistic Director and followed by the speech of Edoardo Campanale, co-founder of Cinemonitor, Italian Cinema Observatory and poliziottesco enthusiast.
APERITIVO
An italian authentic aperitivo/buffet by Ecco Il Ristorante and exquisite wines from Twelvebottles will precede the screening.
FILM SCREENING
The lecture will be followed by the screening of a masterpiece from the director Steno “La Polizia Ringrazia” – ‘Execution Squad’-

Al Cossar has worked across a number of screen culture organisations in Australia, as Program Director for the Portable Film Festival, Festival Manager for Flickerfest, as a Programmer, and subsequently Board Member, for the Human Rights Arts and Film Festival, and within Public Programs at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image. He is also currently a film critic on ABC television in Australia, and has a previous background within editing and postproduction for film and broadcast.
