The Italian Cultural Institute of Melbourne and the Consulate General of Italy in Melbourne are pleased to support the 13th Biennial Conference of the Australasian Centre for Italian Studies (ACIS), titled Beyond Disciplines: Reimagining Italian Studies.

The conference will take place from 23 to 25 July 2026 at the Arts West Building, University of Melbourne, Parkville campus. It will officially open with a special event on 24 July, with the participation of the Consul General of Italy in Melbourne, Chiara Mauri.

This year’s conference invites scholars, educators, creatives, students and all those interested in Italian culture to reflect on the evolving field of Italian Studies and its changing disciplinary, linguistic, cultural and geographical boundaries.

Across three days, the programme will explore new approaches to Italian culture, language, literature, history, cinema, music, food, design, diaspora and pedagogy, as well as the many ways in which Italian culture intersects with contemporary life in Australasia and the Asia-Pacific.

From migration and decolonisation to generative AI and the environmental crisis, Beyond Disciplines: Reimagining Italian Studies aims to foster new forms of inquiry, collaboration and knowledge production, encouraging fresh perspectives on the future of Italian Studies.

The conference is open to scholars, educators, creatives, students and members of the wider public.
