The Italian Cultural Institute of Melbourne, together with the Italian Studies Program and Archives and Special Collections at The University of Melbourne, is delighted to invite you to the exhibition “Eccellenze italiane. Figure per Italo Calvino – Italian Excellence. Illustrations for Italo Calvino” on the occasion of the centenary of Italo Calvino’s birth promoted worldwide by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI).
This exhibition offers a valuable opportunity to engage with Calvino’s literature and retold fables, intended to create moments of sharing between adult and young readers. Additionally, it underscores the importance of children’s literature as vital to the education of future generations.
A historical and geographical overview of one of the greatest interpreters of Italian literature, a writer who turned words into images. The event showcases illustrations by thirty-one Italian and international creators of Italo Calvino’s works. The exhibition forms a visual itinerary through fables, novels, adaptations, and new worlds.
The exhibition is currently open to the public and will be on display at the University of Melbourne’s Baillieu Library (first and third floor) – Parkville, Victoria – until the 30th of November.
