PASOLINI eleven#twentytwo

The project PASOLINI undici#ventidue (‘eleven#twenty-two’ – 11 sites in Casarsa from the poetry and myth of Pier Paolo Pasolini and 11 young poets who are responding to the myth and poetry of their own important places) consists of a series of videos specially made by the Fondazione Pordenonelegge.it – which is collaborating for the three-year period 2021-2023 with the artistic direction of the Centro Studi Pier Paolo Pasolini in Casarsa della Delizia – for italiana.esteri.it and the network of Italian Cultural Institutes for the anniversary of the poet’s birth.

For the 100th anniversary of his birth (1922-2022), the Pordenonelegge.it Foundation, which is responsible for the Libro con gli Autori festival to which it lends its name, has organized a video project dedicated to Pier Paolo Pasolini for the Farnesina, curated by the poet and writer Gian Mario Villalta, director of the PNL.

PASOLINI undici#ventidue: a poetic micro-history of PPP divided into 11 videos, featuring two main characters in each clip (Pasolini himself and a young new voice in Italian poetry), thus arriving at the symbolic number of 22.

The first part of each video presents an iconic passage from the work of the early Pasolini , set in his native surroundings, and rendered in a visual way. The second parts feature 11 young poets who through their poems each enter into a conversation with Pasolini’s work and with a place in Italy which is close to their own heart, whether by birth or by choice: Beatrice Achille, Simone Burratti, Clery Celeste, Maddalena Lotter, Franca Mancinelli, Giuseppe Nava, Daniele Orso, Silvia Righi, Silvia Salvagnini, Marco Scarpa and Julian Zhara.

The project thus contributes to promoting both the work of Pier Paolo Pasolini upon the centenary of his birth and the young contemporary Italian poetry to which the Foundation has already dedicated a number of initiatives. This includes the Anthology of Young Italian Poetry which has already been presented in various Italian Cultural Institutes, which also deepens, without any rhetoric and with delicacy, the link between the poetic word of today and yesterday and the Italian landscape.

‘Pier Paolo Pasolini, writer, director, playwright, and one of the most well-known and researched Italian twentieth-century artists was from the beginning and until the end a poet.

At the age of twenty, his enthusiasm for the dialect of a village in the Friulian countryside, living on the border between reality and dream, ignited the verses that gave life to those themes and ghosts that would accompany him throughout his life thereafter.

We retrace Pasolini’s first poem in Friulian in 11 short videos in the neighbourhoods and countryside where he was born.

And we hear, at each step, from eleven young Italian poets, whom we’ve asked to take us to where their lives are most deeply connected to poetry, and to tell us why.’
