As part of the XXVI Week of the Italian Language in the World, the Italian Cultural Institute of Melbourne and the Consulate General of Italy in Melbourne, in collaboration with the Italian Studies programs at the University of Melbourne, Monash University and La Trobe University, are pleased to present an evening celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Carlo Collodi.
The wooden puppet who longed to become a real boy remains one of the most translated, adapted and reinvented figures in world literature. The event will explore the enduring legacy of The Adventures of Pinocchio and its influence across literature, cinema, the visual arts and beyond. A panel of specialists will discuss the ways in which Collodi’s story has been interpreted and reimagined in Italian and international cultural contexts.
The celebration will also include a showcase of historic editions of Collodi’s works, alongside creative works produced and performed by university students inspired by Pinocchio’s adventures.
