Filmed diary of the location hunting carried out by the director in Israel and Jordan, together with Don Andrea Carraro of Pro Civitate Christiana, in order to evaluate the possibility of setting The Gospel according to Matthew in the very places of Christ’s life.

“I just wanted to collect some documentation to help me set up the Gospel (..). When I arrived in Tel Aviv I rented a car and went inland. At first I stared at some images of an ancient world, mainly Arab. At first I thought that I could use it, but soon afterwards kibbutzim began to appear, and reforestation sites, modern agriculture, light industries and so on, and then I realised that it was useless: I understood it after a few hours of going around by car . The whole film ‘The Gospel of Matthew’ was shot in southern Italy, it gave me the opportunity to make the transposition from the ancient world to the modern without the need to reconstruct it archaeologically or philologically. ” (Pier Paolo Pasolini)
