9TH WEEK OF ITALIAN CUISINE IN THE WORLD

On 28 November, the Consulate General of Italy in Melbourne and the Italian Cultural Institute of Melbourne, in collaboration with the Italian Chamber of Commerce, organised an extraordinary culinary event with renowned MasterChef Guy Grossi on the occasion of the 9th Week of Italian Cuisine in the World. This year’s ninth edition theme was ‘Mediterranean Diet and Roots Cuisine: Health and Tradition’ and aimed at enhancing Italian food culture and the Mediterranean diet as an engine for growth and development.

The evening began with a warm welcome from Consul General Chiara Mauri, who emphasized the rich diversity of Italy’s culinary heritage. The Consul General introduced Chef Grossi, a prominent figure in Melbourne’s culinary scene, who crafted an exquisite menu showcasing the best Italian cuisine. Guests were treated to a delectable selection of dishes and ingredients, including Grana Padano, Gorgonzola, Balsamic Vinegar, Mozzarella, Prosciutto di Parma, Carnaroli rice, and “extra virgin” Olive Oil.

Throughout the evening, the Consul General reiterated the importance of the Mediterranean diet, a UNESCO World Heritage site, describing it as “a lifestyle that celebrates the beauty of balance, freshness, and harmony in our daily lives.” This theme was evident in every dish served, as each ingredient reflected the dedication and passion of Italian producers committed to maintaining the highest quality standards.

The Consul General also addressed the growing phenomenon of ‘Italian Sounding‘, emphasizing the need to promote and protect authentic Italian products and underlining that “we must remain vigilant in ensuring that these are recognized and celebrated worldwide”.

Special thanks were extended to the sponsors who provided exceptional ingredients, including Godot and Twelve Bottles for the wines, Lavazza for the coffee, San Pellegrino for the soft drinks, Birra Moretti for the beer, and Conga Foods, Sapori International, Azzurri Foods, and That’s Amore for the diverse range of food products.
