BASIC USER – A1 Breakthrough Level

A1.1 (25 hours)

Course contents

Topics – unit 1: introductions and greetings; unit 2: introducing myself and people around me; unit 3: ordering food.
Grammar and lexicon – the Italian alphabet, personal pronouns, verbs essere, avere and chiamarsi, definite and indefinite articles, adjectives (nationalities), the singular and plural forms of nouns, of adjectives and of articles, demonstrative and interrogative pronouns, cardinal numbers from 0 to 100, regular verbs ending in -are, -ere, -ire, simple prepositions in, a.

Course outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
1. spell Italian names and nouns, introduce themselves and people around them, ask about someone’s origins and linguistic background, ask personal information.
2. provide their address and telephone number, communicate their tastes, ordering food at the restaurant and at the cafe.

This course is for those who have no prior knowledge of Italian language or for those who need to revise language contents from this level.

A1.2 (25 hours)

Course contents

Topics – unit 4: free time; unit 5: in a hotel; unit 6: travelling Italy.
Grammar and lexicon – revision of previous contents, verbs andare, giocare, leggere, uscire, potere, venire, adverbs of frequency, simple prepositions, mi piace/mi piacciono, cardinal numbers starting from 100, nouns and adjectives agreement, c’è/ci sono, asking time.

Course outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
1. read texts, listen and comprehend audio-visual sources on leisure, know how to book a hotel room, provide information on how to reach a place.
2. talk about leisure, about their personal tastes and preferences, describe places, describe an apartment, describe a place and explain how to reach it.

This course is for those who have a knowledge of Italian language which enables them to access this course’s contents or for those who need to revise language contents from this level.

Grammar – revision of previous contents, present perfect, regular and irregular past participle, absolute superlative, qualche, double negation, quantities, partitive, impersonal construction with si + third person verb.

1. read texts, listen and comprehend audio-visual sources on topics related to past events, holidays, purchases in food stores, Italian typical products, recipes.
2. talk about past events, talk about holidays, talk about someone’s food purchase and eating habits, describe a shop, share recipes.

This course is for those who have a knowledge of Italian language which enables them to access this course’s contents or for those who need to revise language contents from this level.

Grammar – revision of previous contents, reflexive verbs, some adverbs of frequency, ways of saying introduced by the verb fare, possessive adjectives and the use of articles with possessive adjectives, relative superlative, present perfect of reflexive verbs.

2. talk about daily life and daily events, describe festivities and celebrations, talk about and describe their family, describe pictures.
