The IIC is pleased to present "DiVino in Vino" a 3-session course about Italian wine led by Italian winemaker-sommelier Francesca Romagno. The course will take you on a short journey through Italian wine's landscapes: Prosecco, Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir will play the lead of each session. The course is addressed to wine lovers, those looking to supply their cellars and anyone who enjoys a little day drinking (with a smidge of education on the side).

> The story behind the Aperol Spritz

The short journey starts from the explanation of what it is and where the Prosecco is from and how it become the main ingredients of the most popular and iconic Italian Aperitivo around the world, the Aperol Spritz! We will also showcase what Aperol is and who invented the Aperol Spritz recipe. At the end, you will enjoy making all together an Aperol Sprizt!

> The queen of Italian white wine is the Pinot GRIGIO…not the Pinot GRIS!

Introduction of the white wine making method and the story of the Pinot Grigio, the new trendy Italian white wine compared to her cousin Pinot Gris. We will showcase the difference between Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris, an introduction to the white winemaking process and the origin and main characteristics of Pinot Grigio from Italy and of Pinot Gris from Australia. You will also learn how to taste white wine and the systematic approach to tasting, with the analysis of the Appearance, Nose, Palate.

You will be tasting for this section : St Michel Eppan Pinot Grigio and Woodvale Pinot Gris.

> Bold and Beautiful: Pinot Noir. Italy vs Australia!

Introduction to the red wine making method and the comparison of Pinot Noir from the Italian to the Australian.

Let’s see which is the winner!

Francesca will showcase what Pinot Noir is and the difference between Italian and Australian Pinot Noir. She will give you an introduction to the red winemaking process and will talk about origin and main characteristics of Pinot Nero from Italy and from Australia. You will also learn how to taste red wine and the systematic approach to tasting, with the analysis of the Appearance, Nose, Palate.

You will be tasting for this section: St Michel Eppan Pinot Nero and Rochford Pinot Noir


Francesca Romagno, Italian winemaker-sommelier, will be your instructor & guide for the wine classes at the IIC Melbourne. In her career, Francesca Romagno has built extensive knowledge & experience across the hospitality and winemaking industry over the past 9 years.

Her education background was in viticulture and oenology, which she studied in her hometown of Florence in Italy. After completing a bachelor, she worked for 5 years in the winery Giorgio Meletti Cavallari, Tuscany. There she learned the extensive process of winemaking, in in addition to her experience as a sales representative in winery events and exhibitions abroad. Prior to her relocation from Italy to Australia, she worked for one year in London as a sommelier at the Dorchester Hotel. Now happily based in Melbourne, she has worked for the past year as representative for Twelvebottles, a well-known importer and distributor of boutique wines from Italy and Australia – New Zealand wine company.
