CILS - Certification of Italian as a Foreign Language
The Italian Cultural Institute in Melbourne offers CILS (Certification of Italian as a Foreign Language). The CILS certification is a qualification which declares the level of linguistic and communicative competences in Italian as a foreign language. The CILS is awarded by the University of Siena for Foreigners and is recognized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
What is this for?
The CILS is useful for those who study Italian, who work and study within an Italian context, and for those who wish to evaluate their Italian language skills. Each CILS level refers to the ability to communicate in different contexts and situations.

How to apply for the exam
The application form must be completed and sent to IIC Melbourne with a photocopy of an identification document (such as passport or driver’s license) by the deadlines specified for each session.
In addition to the exam fee, an additional administration fee of $120 per candidate is payable to the IIC to sit the exam.
For those candidates who are repeating components of the CILS exam and therefore do not need to sit the full exam, the administration fee payable to the IIC is reduced to $70 (does NOT apply to the B1 citizenship exam).
